Fishing for a Cure 2014 Tournament Rules & Regulations
- Start of tournament will be announced over the VHF on channel 71 at 6:30 a.m. on July 26, 2014.
- All boats must have an operational VHF radio on board.
- Entry fee is $30 per person (Fluke Tournament only) or for a $40 entry fee anglers will be entered in both the Fluke Tournament (First, Second and Third place awarded) & bonus Sea bass and Sea robin contest (one prize awarded for the largest of each species).
- Club division is $250 entry fee per club which allows up to 20 club members to participate.
- Each participant must catch and land their own fish to be eligible for prizes.
- All net proceeds will benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Long Island Chapter.
- All private vessels participating in the event must have at least two anglers on board and all people on board must be registered in the tournament.
- Fishing on Party Boats from Nautical Mile in Freeport, and Captree Boat Basin is allowed.
- All entrants are expected to abide by N.Y. State DEC fishing rules and regulations, all local, state and federal fishing and boating laws as well as tournament rules and regulations while participating in this event.
- Rod and reel only.
- Boats are limited to the legal capacity of each vessel, including captain and crew.
- Captains must be at least 18 years of age.
- Any vessel found to have more than the legal limit of fluke on board will be disqualified from the tournament.
- Weigh-in times for each weigh station are from 1 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. If you do not weigh in by 4:30 p.m., you are automatically disqualified from the tournament.
Weigh stations are as follows: Woodcleft Fishing Station, 447 Woodcleft Avenue, Freeport, NY; Bay Park Fishing Station, 480A Reina Street , Oceanside, NY; Captree Bait & Tackle , Captree State park (3500 E Ocean Parkway, Babylon, NY,11702) Babylon Fishing Station (23 Post Pl, Babylon, NY 11702 Post Pl, Babylon, NY 11702)
- Each participant can weigh in one Fluke for prize consideration. Participants entered in the bonus division can weigh in either one Sea Bass or one Sea Robin.
- Private boats must weigh in by boat at one of the weigh stations
- Entrants fishing on party boats that are berthed on Nautical Mile in Freeport ,or at Captree Boat Basin, are allowed to come by land
- Any fish found to be tampered with will be disqualified by the weigh master present.
- You do not need to bring the fish with you to the awards festivities. Weights will be collected from designated weigh stations and the winners will be announced at awards festivities to be held at Johnny Malones in Wantagh at 4 p.m. on July 27, 2014.
- Anyone participating in the club division of the tournament is only eligible to fish for their club and is not eligible for individual prizes. Those wishing to be eligible for individual prizes must separately register and pay a separate entry fee. The same fish may be weighed in for use in determining club standings as well as for individual prizes if angler is registered prior to event.
- Winners must be present at awards ceremony to receive prizes. Participants can have an alternate attend the awards festivities on their behalf. (Entrant must be reachable by phone to verify if prior notice has not been given a week or more in advance) The event will take place rain or shine except due to the following conditions; please refer to Weather. There are no refunds, no exchanges. Registrations are non- transferrable. This event will not be rescheduled in the event of a cancellation. In the event that the tournament is cancelled, NMSSLI will still host festivities on July 27, 2014 at Johnny Malones in Wantagh.

Club Division Rules and Regulations
The combined weight of the three largest Fluke weighed in per club determines the winner. Any club with less than three keepers weighed in cannot win. In the event there is a tie, the winning club will be determined by the times in which the final fish for consideration was weighed in. In the event that each club registered in the club division is unable to weigh in three fish, then the winning club will be determined by highest combined weight of fish weighed in and tie breakers still will apply if necessary.
Weather
The National MS Society reserves the right to cancel the tournament as it deems necessary, no refunds will be given. Participants must monitor N.O.A.A. weather at 6 a.m. the day of the event. A Small Craft Advisory issued by N.O.A.A. as of 6 a.m. will make the event bay only for participants fishing areas affected by the advisory. This includes party boats. Hurricanes and tropical storms will cancel event.
